Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:
- Community and Family Studies
- Exploring Early Childhood
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
- Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.
Faculty aims
The Bossley Park PDHPE faculty aims to provide authentic experiences for our students to become life-long learners and live healthy, active and safe lifestyles. Through the development of engaging and relevant teaching and learning programs, students will develop characteristics that promote empathy, resilience, respectful relationships, inclusivity and social justice. Further to this, the learning experiences at Bossley Park will provide students with a foundation to actively contribute to, and advocate for, the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others in the community and beyond school.
As a faculty we hope to create future focussed students and provide all our students with the appropriate self-management and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others, whilst thinking critically and creatively. We believe in students learning through movement. Students are provided opportunities to practise, develop and refine the physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills that are important for engaging in movement and leading a healthy, safe and physically active life.
Sport and Extracurricular Opportunities
Sport
Sport is an integrated model with years 7-10 provided with one 80 minute lesson a week. Bossley Park High enters CHS knock out competitions, which allows our students to play in a competitive environment against other schools in the Sydney South West region and the state. Students are provided further sporting opportunities through participation in our Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals.
School Gym and Boot Camp
The school gym is available Monday to Thursday 3:15pm-4pm for students and staff. Our experienced PDHPE staff will provide students the opportunity to work on their strength and conditioning. Boot camp is available to all students on Tuesday and Friday mornings in Term 1 and Term 4 with breakfast provided for all participants in this program.
For any further questions about the curriculum or programs in PDHPE, please contact the school and ask to speak to the faculty Head Teacher, Mr Devrim Gaziler.
